The Two Blues are pleased to announce that Tobias Gukibau will be leading the 2023 Colts Program as Head Coach!
Tobias started his Shute Shield playing career at the Two Blues in 2004 where he made his First Grade debut. Tobias played for 3 years at the Two Blues before moving to the Gordon Highlanders, where he played 160 Shute Shield games in First Grade.
Tobias went on to be selected for the North Harbour Rays in the National Rugby Competition (NRC). He was also selected to play for the Australian Barbarians vs Western Force in 2016 and had the honour of Captaining the NSW Fijian Team for 3 years in the NSW Pacific Cup.
Tobias will work closely with our Head Coach, Sailosi Tagicakibau, to identify and develop our Colts as Players of the future for the Club, and will also have regular contact with the NSWRU Waratahs Gen Blue Program Team to drive future development of talent coming from Western Sydney.
On his appointment, Tobias said “I am really excited to lead the Two Blues Colts Program in 2023, and work with the players to improve their rugby and build on the hard work they did in 2022. We have a really talented group of youngsters coming through from last year’s playing group and also from our Two Blues Juniors. I am also looking forward to working with Sailosi and all the other coaches in the Colts Program to help develop the players and provide them with a great coaching experience. We learnt a lot of lessons from 2022, and it’s something we will definitely improve on.”
Two Blues Head Coach, Sailosi Tagicakibau, added “I have huge respect for Tobias – he achieved a lot in the game as a player and is now looking to give back to the game as a Coach back at his former Club. His contribution to the Colts Program will be massive and I know he will always put the best interest of the players and Club first. He has a lot of experience to offer the players and I am looking forward to working with him. Our Colts Program represents the future of the Two Blues and the entire Club is right behind Tobias and his coaching team – it’s a big priority for us in 2023.”
