Sevens Rugby Funding secured for Two Blues!

Merrylands RSL Club has continued their support for Rugby in Western Sydney by providing a $10,000 grant towards the development and growth of Sevens Rugby in partnership with the Western Sydney Two Blues Rugby Club.

The grant comes as the Two Blues prepare to compete in a number of elite Senior Sevens Rugby Tournaments over the next six months, including the Bowral 7’s (17 September), Sawtell 7’s (October 1-3), World Schools 7’s (NZ), Warringah 7’s (February 2023), Hamilton 7’s (February 2023), and Kiama 7’s (February 2023).

Christian Burden, General Manager of the Two Blues, said “The generosity of the Merrylands RSL Club is inspiring, and we are most grateful for the continued support that they provide for Rugby in Western Sydney. This grant will support our Sevens Program by covering the costs of travel and Tournament entry fees for the players, ensuring our players are not disadvantaged and we are able to focus on preparing the Teams to compete at their very best.”

Earlier this year, the Two Blues re-launched the Two Blues Sevens Rugby Academy, a dedicated program featuring specialised Sevens Rugby fitness, skills, and strategy training. The program caters for men, women, youth boys and youth girl’s squads. The program follows a strict training regime utilising methods of both state and national Sevens Rugby programs, and has helped to produce Australian Rugby Sevens stars Solomone Vosaicake and Dietrich Roache, who recently played a major role in Australia’s gold medal success at the Commonwealth Games.

Two Blues Head Rugby Coach, Sailosi Tagicakibau added “Sevens is a very important format of Rugby for aspiring players, especially here in Western Sydney. It provides talented and skilful players the opportunity to develop their skills and fitness, and experience competing in high level tournaments. The Two Blues have a long history of success with Sevens Rugby, and we see it as a key component of our Rugby program at the Two Blues to help develop and inspire players of the future.”

Sevens Rugby is now a major international Sport, played by men and women at the Commonwealth and Olympic Games. In October, the Two Blues Juniors will also be competing in the NSW Rugby Junior Sevens Championships in Foster.
